Kaitlin & Carter at The Sonnenalp: A Joyful Summer Wedding in Vail, Colorado
Vail has a way of making a wedding weekend feel both elevated and welcoming. From quiet mornings in the village to panoramic mountain views above the tree line, it offers couples a destination where guests can slow down, reconnect and celebrate together.
Kaitlin and Carter’s summer wedding was a beautiful reflection of everything we love about photographing weddings in the Colorado mountains. Their day wasn’t defined by elaborate timelines or perfectly planned moments. It was defined by trust, laughter and the kind of joy that naturally unfolds when a couple is fully present with the people they love. The weekend gifted us perfect summer in Vail weather. The wildflowers were blooming, the sun was just right and the setting was a piece of their story. Vail had long been a much loved spot for the bride and her family.

Kaitlin and Carter were the kind of couple every wedding photographer hopes for. They trusted the process completely, embraced every part of the day and focused their attention where it mattered most: on each other and the people surrounding them.
Their bridal party brought endless energy while still making the day feel relaxed and effortless. It never felt performative. It simply felt like a group of lifelong friends genuinely excited to celebrate together. That ease created space for authentic moments to unfold naturally, allowing us to document the day as it happened rather than directing every interaction. We also want to shout out one of our favorite planners The Soiree Studio for making the weekend so effortless and beautiful!

Kaitlin and her friends got ready for her summer wedding in Vail, Colorado at The Sonnenalp. This beautiful hotel makes you feel as though you’ve stepped into a Bavarian village in Switzerland. The room was full energy and excited as the ladies finished up their hair and makeup from the wonderful team with Divine Beauty Artists. After Kaitlin got into her dress, her bridesmaids greeted her with huge smiles and hugs to send her off to the first look. These moments are often some our favorite on a wedding day.

K&C chose to take the Vail Gondola up the mountain for their first look. Both of their reactions were tearful and the joy was overwhelming. Taking even just a few minutes to have time like this alone o your wedding day will alqays be a big yes from us. We moved into portraits in the afternoon sun and took in the beauty of the view from the top of Vail Mountain. Their portraits were relaxed and effortless- a true testament to their trust in us and presence in the moment.

As the sun dipped behind the mountains and guests gathered for dinner the celebration continued with the same effortless energy that carried the day from the beginning. There was a genuine sense that everyone was there not just to attend a wedding but to celebrate two people they deeply loved.
Kaitlin and Carter never felt rushed or pulled in a hundred directions. They stayed present with one another, shared quiet moments whenever they could and fully embraced the joy of having all of their favorite people in one place. Their reception reflected that same warmth. A vintage inspired cake added a timeless touch to the evening while heartfelt toasts, endless laughter and a packed dance floor kept the celebration going well into the night.
It’s weddings like these that remind us the most memorable celebrations aren’t defined by an elaborate timeline. They’re remembered because of how they made everyone feel.

Vail has long been one of Colorado’s most sought after destination wedding locations and it’s easy to understand why. Couples can exchange vows surrounded by breathtaking mountain views while giving their guests a weekend they’ll never forget. From hiking and gondola rides in the summer to incredible dining, shopping and luxury accommodations in Vail Village there’s no shortage of ways for friends and family to enjoy the weekend together.
One of our favorite things about photographing weddings in Vail is how seamlessly nature and elegance exist side by side. You can step off a mountain surrounded by wildflowers and within minutes be celebrating in a refined reception space. It feels elevated without losing the relaxed mountain atmosphere that makes Colorado so special.

As a Colorado wedding photographer, our approach is always centered on helping couples feel fully present. We believe the best photographs aren’t created by rushing from one photo opportunity to the next. They come from slowing down, trusting the process and creating space for genuine moments to unfold naturally.
