Kourtney & Jason Sayulita Wedding & Party Boat Adventure

Kourtney & Jason - An Alternative Wedding Day

You may have realized by now that this wedding was unique! Kourtney and Jason took fun to the next level for their Sayulita wedding day.

The couple and their entire group of guests came all the way to Mexico from Alaska! The day of their wedding, it was -40 degree F at their home in Fairbanks! Ouch. I don’t even know how to imagine that kind of cold. Needless to say, Kourtney, Jason and their friends and family wanted a sunny escape from winter to celebrate their wedding! Being such a fun, laid back couple, they wanted their guests to have nothing but fun and sun, to enjoy every minute of Mexico for their trip. What better way to do that than have a day on a party boat right? Well, these guys chose to have their reception on the boat! Yes, on a boat! They took their guests for a day trip, ditching the traditional reception idea for bikinis, beers and waterslides!

Check out their unique wedding below!

We started the day at Casa Rana Verde in Sayulita, where the couple and their family spent the week. Kourtney and her friends got ready together in one of the villas while Jason and family enjoyed breakfast by the pool.

Kourtney chose a beautiful Grace Loves Lace gown that was the perfect simplistic, bridal look for the occasion.

The garden at Rana Verde was the perfect backdrop for bridal portraits and sweet moments between her and her mom while getting dressed.

The gorgeous bouquet was designed and created by Sayulita florist Flora Amor.

Kourtney and Jason shared an intimate first look in the garden with just the two of them. Although the couple chose to have most of the wedding pretty non traditional, the moment Jason saw his bride was a sweet, beautiful reminder of the importance of the day.

Before heading off the beach ceremony we took a walk along Sayulita’s main beach. Since it was still early, around 9am, we had most of the beach to ourselves (a rare occasion in Sayulita) and it was the perfect backdrop to capture couple and family portraits.

Below, one of the my favorite images from the whole day. Such a sweet, natural moment between Kourtney and Jason. Not to mention she looks stunning!

For the ceremony, we made our way to La Cruz de Huanacaxtle for a beach front ceremony at Coco’s Beach Club. The guests were all seated in the sand, facing the ocean while the couple exchanged vows in a short but sweet ceremony that was officiated by the bride’s brother.

The bride and groom and guests enjoyed a champagne toast on the beach before heading to the reception.

And here is where it gets fun! Guests were taken from the beach club to the La Cruz Marina in an open air convoy by Chica Loca, the boat tour company.

We were greeted at the marina by Chica Loca’s fun, upbeat team! Guests boarded the party boat, ordered a cocktail and prepared for a day on the water!

As the boat sailed out to sea, Kourtney, Jason and their guests got the party started! Dancing, drinks, sunshine- what more do you need?

While at sea the Chica Loca team helped us to spot humpback whales! January is known as an active whale season in the area. For hours we spotted somewhere around 20 whales and they danced for us in an out of the water! It was amazing!

To make the day even more exciting Kourtney and Jason asked me if they could jump off the boat in their wedding clothes. My answer? OF COURSE! So, for the first time in my career, I got in a bathing suit, got a water housing and got into the ocean to capture part of a wedding!

Kourtney and Jason took the plunge off the front of the boat while their guests cheered them on!

We spent the remainder of the day anchored at sea. The bride and groom also braved the water slide in their wedding clothes and then eventually decided bathing suites were a better choice! Their guests enjoyed sunbathing on the boat, paddle boarding, swimming, jumping from the boat (and slide) and lounging on floats in the ocean.

It was quite an exciting day and one of my favorite weddings yet! Thank you Kourtney and Jason for coming up with such a fun wedding idea and for having me there to capture it!
