Part II of Playa Las Tortugas
Playa Las Tortugas was full of beautiful landscapes and animals!! One of my favorite parts of my visit was capturing the wild life. We took a tour through near by mangroves in San Blas and saw alligators in their natural habitat. Being a Florida girl, that wasn’t anything new for me but, it was so lovely to ride the boat down the river and scout out gators. We saw tons of birds, fish, turtles, baby and big guy gators. I was able to capture one of them so well on film, he was so calm and still! I was afraid to shoot with my film camera at first because I didn’t want to disturb them while my friends where taking video (my shutter is quite loud!). But this big guy sat and showed off for us for a while, mouth open and all! Though I have to say, I think my favorite shot of the day is the first photo below of the boat driver taking a rest under the trees. It’s the perfect example of magical film can be! It was broad, super bright day light but still you can see all the details in the shadowy trees and the details in the leaves of the tree in the bright light. Film is so cool!!
We finished our day with a turtle release. Playa Las Tortugas has a turtle hatchery on site that collects the eggs after nesting, incubates them and then schedules a protected release. We released hundreds of turtles in one batch! We do this in Sayulita as well but this was the closest and most intimate setting I have ever seen them released- just the three of us at sunset! We waited until every last little guy was washed out to sea. It took a long time! But we encouraged them and waited patiently so we knew all of our little babies were swimming away! Check it out below!
